Baltimore locals destroy a police car in response to the Freddie Gray incident

While many Black Lives Matter protests have been peaceful, a number of the group’s demonstrations and the actions of their supporters have been anything but. Protests over the arrest of Freddie Gray began on April 18, while the 25-year-old was still fighting for his life at the University of Maryland Medical Center from injuries sustained while in police custody.

Protests continued after his death on the 19th, often centering around Sandtown-Winchester's Gilmor Homes, where Gray was arrested; the Western District police headquarters just blocks away; and City Hall. Read more

Black Lives Matter Movement Awarded Sydney Peace Prize for Activism

The Black Lives Matter movement was awarded the Sydney Peace Prize for its work highlighting America's race issues on Thursday.

In a room full of Sydney, Australia citizens and community leaders, the audience clapped, cheered, and chanted "Black Lives they matter here" as movement leaders Patrisse Cullors, Rodney Diverlus, and Dawn Modkins accepted the award. Read more
