Basketball has been apart of the Pralympics Games since 1960, it has the same rules as its counterpart but special rules such as dribbling in a wheelchair change.Athletes in this event are grouped by demonstrated playing ability, rather than strictly by medical classification.

The sport is governed by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF). The IWBF governs all aspects of the game, including court size and basket height, which remain the same as able-bodied basketball.

Men and Women Go Gold in Rio 2016

It was the first time both men and women won Gold, ending a 28-year gold medal drought. Both teams went undefeated through the tournament.

On the men's side, led by Steve Serio and Michael Paye had Team USA winnig by 16 points. The womens leadig scorer was Rebecca Murray with 169 points.
