Band Bio
The band performing in Dublin
With their roots in Dublin, Kodaline originally began as a duo of childhood friends Steve Garrigan and Mark Prendergast. Vincent May joined the two boys when they were all in their early teens, and the trio soon gained popularity in 2006 after perfoming in "You're a Star," an Irish talent show. Under the name "21 Demands," their single, "Give Me a Minute" reached the top of the Irish charts, and the band became the only one to reach the charts without being signed to a record label. They received an offer not long afterwards but declined it, not confident that their music was good enough. About 5 years later, the group met Jason Boland, a bassist and the last person they needed to complete the four-man group that they are today.
Kodaline's music falls into thr category of modern rock, being compared to other European bands such as U2, Coldplay, Keane, and Oasis. They have a mixture of songs, some of which are more upbeat and energetic, while others are more heartfelt and somber.
Fully formed by 2012, the group released their first studio album, "In A Perfect World," in June 2013. Songs such as "All I Want," "High Hopes," and "Love Like This" are a part of their first album, songs that have made appearances in many films and TV shows.
Steve Garrigan

*Lead singer, guitarist, pianist*
Music was clearly a passion of his from a young age, as far back as his participation in a church choir at the age of eight. Though he studied Law and Economics in college, Garrigan dropped out before graduating, wanting to focus his attention on his budding musical career. Garrigan first learned to play guitar when he was 10, and artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Chuck Berry played a large role in inspiring him.
Fun facts: He is a big fan of horror movies, as well as TV shows such as "Breaking Bad" and "Game of Thrones." His celebrity crush is Zooey Deschanel, and he has a tattoo of a musical note on his chest.

Also a member of the church choir with Steve Garrigan, Prendergast helped to form the basis for Kodaline. He, Garrigan, and Vincent May all grew up in Swords, a suburb of Dublin and were able to all contribute their unique talents to the band.
Fun facts: He is a fan of bands such as LCD Soundsystem, The Beatles, and Radiohead. He learned to play guitar at the age of 11. Like Garrigan, he enjoys horror films such as "Saw."
Jason "Jay" Boland

The last one to join Kodaline, Jason is also the only member of the band not from Swords in Dublin. Jason was a huge asset to the band, especially after they lost a member in 2011 and were in need of a bassist.
Fun facts: He knows how to play the cello. He is the oldest member of the band. He recently proposed to his girlfriend of over five years in front of a crowd of 80,000 during one of Kodaline's concerts.
Vincent "Vinny" May

Vinny May became friends with Garrigan and Prendergast at a skatepark when he was about 15 years old. His skateboarding skills deemed as not being the greatest by his fellow bandmates, May lent his talents to drumming and helped to add to the structure of the band as it started to make progress and gain popularity.
Fun facts: He gained a love of Blues and Jazz music from his parents. He is a fan of rugby, especially Irish rugby teams. He is the youngest member of the band and began drumming when he was only 9 years old.
