Who Are the Ambassadors?
One organization at Loyola University Maryland that I am lucky to be apart of is the Study Abroad Ambassadors program.
Study Abroad Ambassadors are current juniors or seniors who studied abroad themselves and are taking the opportunity to mentor other students about life abroad.
The ambassadors "
are dedicated to promoting interest, cultural immersion, assisting in preparation, offering support, and providing a platform for communication regarding the study abroad experience."
The program is comprised of four committees: Finance, Mentorship, Events, and Publicity. I serve on the Publicity Committee, where we post on the organization's
Instagram page and also create graphics and videos.
Throughout the semester, we are required to work at least four events, which include speaking at Open House information fairs, Messina Classes, and selling t-shirts and stickers.
Giving Others Advice...
I studied abroad in Ireland and I really like speaking with underclassmen and giving them advice on studying abroad like differences in academics, travel tips, and how to cope with home sickness.
Before I studied abroad, I met with some students who went previously and learned so much from their experiences, which helped to enhance my personal experience.
People are also able to gain deeper insight into Loyola's study abroad programs by checking out the
Loyola Abroad Life Blog! Current and past study abroad students post about their time in their respective countries.
Ambassador Emily Lima loves telling students about her time in Bangkok, Thailand as she says, "It's fun to influence new students and tell them about the best places and foods to try in Thailand and give them advice on anything else they want to know."
The Study Abroad Ambassadors program has given more meaning to my time at Loyola. It's going to be hard to leave this organization after college but I know that I will always carry the memories of this amazing program with me.
