Study Abroad: Weekend Destinations

Magic in Marrakech, Morocco

A group of friends and I spontaneously decided to spend a weekend in Morocco. After that weekend, I can positively say it was my favorite weekend of the semester. It was the place we experienced the most culture shock, and that is something I personally always strive for. I believe one of the primary purposes of travel is to experience and learn new things entirely different from what you are used to. That is something we accomplished here.

Wondering What To Do?

We stayed in an Airbnb, which happened to be a Riad. Not only this, but the woman who lived there stayed with us all weekend. She cooked us traditional meals of couscous, tangine, and much more, while we indulged on crepes with jam and sugar for breakfast. And of course, we had tea time (and it was the best tea we ever had in our lives).

We spent the entire first day haggling and fighting over prices in the Souks. We ended the day with arms full of scarves, wooden trinkets, paintings, bags, and jewlery- all homemade!

The second day we switched to a more adventurous mode. First, we rode ATV's through the desert for an hour and a half (exlcuding our photoshoots and tea break). Then after our adrenaline pump, we rode camels through the desert. We even went through a small neighborhood and gave bracelets to the children that ran after us. I 10/10 recommend these activites while visiting Morocco.
